Following the loss of over 3800 when membership linked to the annual pass expired on 31st March 2009 we currently have about 20 volunteer members and are always keen to welcome new volunteers.
The volunteers turned out on a number of occasions from January to November 2009 to clear vegetation, plant a willow tunnel, learn willow weaving, and construct brash fences. The volunteers also organised and manned the Duck Dash and the Halloween events. Recently we ran the 5th Annual Duck dash in conjunction with the Scarborough branch of Save the Children Fund on Easter Monday - see news item. We are keen to increase our membership to ensure that we better represent all the varied interests of the thousands who visit the forest every year.
The new 'Discovery Pass' was launched by the Forestry Commission earlier this year, this replaces the former annual pass for the forest drive see www.forestry.gov.uk/pass for more details. Unlike the old pass which expired at the end of March every year the Discovery Pass is for 12 months from date of purchase.
